The months have passed like they were days and the time of our 30th reunion is rapidly approaching. We recently learned that the date for Homecoming in 2000 is October 13th for the old fogey version of the Bulldog Growl (they call it the Alumni Assembly), the Alumni Tea, the parade, and the football game.
We want to plan an event that everyone will want to attend and that everyone will enjoy. Now is the time to give us your suggestions and comments. We're tentatively planning basically the same events as last reunion. We will have a very informal gathering on Friday after the football game, golf on Saturday morning, a dinner dance on Saturday evening, and a picnic Sunday afternoon. We will keep the cost as low as possible, while also providing the "traditional" DeLand homecoming paraphernalia and food at the Friday and Saturday (13 and 14 October 2000) evening events.
We want everyone to attend--no matter how much hair you've lost, weight you've gained ( I'm definitely going to lose at least 685 pounds before October!), who your divorced, or money you haven't made. Dress for Saturday evening is going to be whatever you want. If you want to come all decked out, go for it. If you like the jeans and boots idea, that works. My outfit will definitely be casual and my husband will not be wearing a tie. But if you like the idea of getting all dressed up for a special occasion (or if your wife wants you to) I will really enjoy seeing you look so nice.
We promise the band will not play as loudly as last time so we can still talk while they're playing. Nor will the music on Friday be as loud. You can dance if you want, but you will be able to talk. And all smoking will be outside.
Enclosed is a list of people we've been unable to locate. Can you help us find anyone on the list? And if this letter has reached a deceased classmate, please forgive me, and return the postcard so we will have that information.
We need the information so we will know how to plan. What did you especially like about past reunions and what didn't you like? Are you definitely planning to attend or definitely planning not to come? If aren't planning to attend because you can't afford tickets to our events, e-mail or call me. And if you can help us come up with a truck and flatbed for the parade, e-mail or call me. And if you're willing to help with the planning of the reunion, let me know that. So far on the committee we have Betsi Lane Horan, Mike and Pat Hennessey McMahan, Bill McCorvey, Gary Felton, Kevin Maylone, and Tim Tew. Mike says the planning meetings are as much fun as the reunion. I don't think Betsi and I would go that far, but we do enjoy them or we wouldn't keep doing it.
Please return the enclosed postcard or respond by e-mail by June 1. Update your information for our address book, which we will make available to everyone--at a small cost fro a hard copy and free as an e-mail attachment. Also include your e-mail address. We will communicate that way whenever possible.
Sincerely,
Norma Slaydon Dean
